A pub with a past. A future shaped by us all.
The Plough in Fadmoor, North Yorkshire, has stood at the heart of our village for generations — a place to meet, share stories, celebrate milestones, and feel at home. When its doors closed in 2011, something more than a building was lost. We lost the heart of our community.

But not for long.
Four key members of the local community battled tirelessly to save The Plough. They formed Fadmoor Community Pub Limited, a Community Benefit Society, to bring The Plough into community ownership.
It was registered as an asset of Community value in 2013.
Throughout this time, the Community Group, worked to save The Plough, along with strong support from the local and wider community, local businesses, key organisations, councillors, and the local MP.
There was a shared belief: this pub belongs at the centre of village life — now and for the future. With the help of a successful Community Ownership Fund application, which matched funds received from the Fadmoor Community Pub Limited share offer, The Plough’s future was finally secured on 30 September 2024.
We’re not just reopening a pub. We’re rebuilding a community hub — a welcoming space for all ages, locals and visitors alike. A place to meet friends, hear live music, enjoy a quiet pint, support local producers, and host everything from book clubs to bingo nights.
Our mission is simple:
To create a thriving, sustainable, community-owned pub that serves people — not just profit.
Everyone is welcome at The Plough, whether you’re a shareholder, supporter, a volunteer, or someone dropping in on a walk across the moors — this place is here for you.
We believe rural pubs like ours can do more than survive. With the right care, vision, and community spirit — they can flourish.
