18 February: The Plough, Fadmoor in North Yorkshire has now closed its Community Share Offer having reached the current limit of £375,000 with £90,000 of that raised in the last two weeks. The Community Share Offer, which was initiated in October 2021, now has 388 members with investors from all corners of the U.K. and as far afield as Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
The Plough Management committee are now reviewing the feasibility and options for a new share offer scheme. Anyone still wishing to invest in The Plough can make an expression of interest (see link below) if any future share offers are launched.
In the meantime, you can still help and support us bring The Plough, Fadmoor back to life by donating towards the ongoing restoration. All donations, which can be made online, will be used for the renovation of the outbuildings, garden space and match funding for additional grants. These areas of the site were not included in the original Community Share Offer refurbishment forecasts.
Why invest?
Keeping the heart of the village alive
The Plough has always been more than just a pub – it’s the social heart!
By investing, you help to:
- Reopen and protect a vital village meeting place
- Create a welcoming space for friends, families, clubs and local groups
- Provide a stop-off for walkers, cyclists and visitors to the Moors
Your investment helps keep the village alive, connected and welcoming.
Owned by the community, for the community
This isn’t a chain pub or a distant landlord. It’s our pub.
- Community ownership means one-member, one-vote – no matter how much you invest
- Key decisions are made locally, with the community’s long-term interests at heart
- Profits are reinvested into the business and village, not extracted elsewhere
By investing, you’re helping to secure the pub’s future for generations to come.

Potential to share in future success
This is a community project run with commercial discipline:
- The aim is to operate profitably and responsibly
- Any surplus, after costs and reserves, can be reinvested into the pub and the community
- Subject to performance and Board decisions, there may be the potential for dividends on shares
Please note: As with any investment, returns are not guaranteed and your capital is at risk.

An investment you can enjoy
Unlike most investments, you can visit this one any time:
- Walk through the doors of the pub you’ve helped to save
- Enjoy a drink, a meal or an event in “your” community pub
- See, feel and experience the difference your support has made
It’s an investment you can literally raise a glass to.
Uniquely secure investment
Whilst returns are not guaranteed, the security of shareholder funds has always been important.
The value of investment is capped to not exceed the fair marketable value of the freehold property to ensure, should the worst happen, all shareholders receive their investment back. We can’t dilute and sell shareholdings larger than the current share offer of £375,000.
Community investors have first charge on the property, with Government holding second charge until 2031. So that means your investment is as safe as it can possibly be.

- The facts are supported by the annual accounts and/or business plan for the society;
- Nothing in the documents is purposefully incorrect, confusing or misleading.
Societies are asked to sign a Code of Practice requiring them, amount other things, to give the public a right of complaint to the Community Shares Unit. We are pleased to confirm that this share offer has been awarded the Community Shares Standard Mark.
