The Routes

Choose from three routes, all fully signposted and supported, with a great community atmosphere from start to finish.

Short Route – 29 miles with 2,500ft elevation

Perfect if you want a North York Moors spin without a full day in the saddle. This scenic loop serves up classic moorland lanes, steady climbs and a satisfying, achievable challenge.

Starting from Fadmoor, you’ll head south into Ryedale via Harome, rolling towards the honey-pot market town of Helmsley. From there the route turns north through Carlton before the road begins to rise into Bransdale — a proper taste of the Moors. You’ll then sweep back south towards Fadmoor for a warm welcome and a well-earned pie and pint at The Plough.

Medium Route – 44 miles with 4,500ft elevation

A step up in both distance and elevation, the Medium route links together even more of that dale-to-dale scenery. Expect a few proper pulls, plenty of rolling road to find your rhythm, and a real sense of achievement by the time you return.

Like all routes, you’ll begin by heading south from Fadmoor into Ryedale via Harome and on to Helmsley. Then it’s north into Bransdale on a satisfying circular loop before returning south to Fadmoor for tea, cake and refreshments at The Plough, Fadmoor. Refuel, then set off on the second leg into Farndale — the famous daffodil valley — before climbing out north via Blakey Bank. From the high moor you’ll head south along Blakey Ridge towards Hutton-le-Hole, then turn right back up Gillamoor Bank and on to Fadmoor, finishing with a warm reception and that deserved pie and pint at The Plough.

Long Route – 56 miles with 5,800ft elevation

The full Moors day out — longer climbs, bigger views, and the most complete loop through this spectacular landscape. Designed for experienced riders (or anyone looking for a tough-but-beautiful challenge), this route delivers a proper day in the saddle with memorable high-moor riding.

You’ll start as all riders do, heading south from Fadmoor into Ryedale via Harome and on to Helmsley, before tackling the climb and circular route through Bransdale. You’ll then return south to Fadmoor for tea, cake and refreshments at The Plough, Fadmoor — an ideal stop before the bigger second half. Next, head into Farndale (the daffodil valley) and climb out north via Blakey Bank, continuing up onto Blakey Ridge past The Lion Inn. From there, drop into Rosedale and press on towards Cropton, then through the beautiful village of Lastingham and the ever-popular Hutton-le-Hole. Finally, you’ll return via Gillamoor to Fadmoor for a warm welcome and a celebratory pie and pint at The Plough.
